These bonbon-coloured, candyfloss-like human sculptures are the result of a creative clash between Austrian performance artist Erwin Wurm and Belgian fashion rebel Walter van Beirendonck, which took place last Saturday at the Middelheim Museum in Antwerp to commemorate Erwin Wurm’s exhibition entitled WEAR ME OUT.
‘Performative Sculptures’ involved the two artists creating flamboyant surreal human sculptures that wandered between other Wurm artworks in the museum’s park and interacted with the visitors. Just like in Erwin Wurm’s legendary ‘One Minute Sculptures’, these are also temporary sculptures, which afterwards only live on in media form. The performance will be repeated on 6 August at 8pm, as well as on 25 September, the last day of the exhibition, at 4pm.
